Owl Butterfly Wing Patterns

Owl Butterfly on branch.

The Owl butter has one of the most intriguing camouflage techniques for fooling predators. Photographing the live subject, however can be very frustrating as they tend to move or be easily startled.

Working with a butterfly garden and preserve, they lay out dropped wings from their different butterflies after the insect has died naturally for photographers to photograph and children and adults to admire and learn from. This wing was in fairly good condition and I was able to use an extension tube to get in close to examine the texture and patterns.
